Looking for training
«

Hi
I live in Montreal and i am looking for a workshop who would agree to give me training for 2 weeks in april, may or june 2010.
I have a little experience in upholstery and know how to sew.
I am ready to go anywhere in Canada or USA.
Hope to get an answer.
Andrea.

As for getting some one to teach you in a couple weeks I don't think that would happen. Most shops that would hire would want experienced upholsterers that could start right off with knowing just about every detail to upholstering all different items. Sewing is important but is only part of the equation of the upholstery trade. You should consider that if some one was to train you, you are looking for a few years training to get proficient with all that is involved with re-upholstery. Even after that training you will be constantly learning as you find new designs and constructions on newer upholstered items. Now that is just the furniture side. Then you get into the auto and marine side and there is even more diverse training and designs to learn. First thing to do is check on the training schools listed on this site. Take one of them and progress from there. Yes there are many that do upholstery as a hobby but to become proficient to the point of becoming a paid professional trades person takes more then a few weeks training.

CHF, in North Carolina, has a short training program - it's a good, basic introduction:

You're in luck! They have it scheduled for 13 days in April-May, 2010. I think this is closest to what you're looking for. As Stacey said, you won't learn everything there is to know in two weeks, but the CHF course is an excellent place to start.

Jeannie Hutchins went through a Canadian program. Does it still exist? If I recall, she said it was pricey, but very comprehensive.
